Salaries at top tech companies can be far more lucrative than traditional companies because they offer stock, bridge cash, performance bonuses, and even sign on bonuses.
In this video I breakdown Amazon's total comp as well as the pros and cons of how their pay is structured compared to other tech companies so that you can negotiate the best offer.

Salary Negotiation Pitfalls - Two Questions You MUST ASK
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
Nobody is talking about this on RUclips and it impacts your ability to negotiate the best offer for yourself... You see, at some companies managers don’t have access to your numbers, but at companies like Amazon your manager sees EVERYTHING. I’ve seen time and time again that candidates get capped with a lowball offer because the manager isn't getting paid well - There are two questions you mus...
Behavioral Interviews - Express a CLEAR Problem to Succeed at Top Tech Companies

If you want to get a job (more specifically a Product Management job) at a top tech company you MUST deliver your achievement related behavioral interview answers with extremely clear problem statements. Forget STAR method use this instead...

If you want to land a role at a top tech company like Amazon the STAR method for answering behavioral questions just wont cut it. Instead I've created a new framework called OPGAR focuses specifically on how to anchor goal language to the result so that you can create a far more compelling story. O.P.G.A.R stands for the following 1. Overview 2. Problem 3. Goal 4. Actions 5. Result 📅 Need some ...
Salary Negotiation Script - Step-by-Step Template to Get 30% More Money

I created a step-by-step salary negotiation script that you can use to increase your chances of getting a better offer at a top tech company like Amazon. I spent the past 4 years at Amazon and have coached thousands of people to get better offers at top tech companies over the past 6 years. Salary negotiation is often thought of as an uncomfortable topic because many people don't even know how ...
Decline an Offer to Get More Money? Yes.

Sometimes you have to decline top tech company offers in order for them to come back and gives you a better one. In this video I break down a real life example of how a recruiter initially told my client that the best she could do was $275K for a Sr. Program manager role (tech L6). We got the number up to $300K total comp, but then walked away. Amazon then came back and opened their checkbook w...
I Am Not My Career

At the age of 5, adults begin asking us what we want to BE when we grow up. This is likely the first moment in our lives where we get subtly introduced to the concept that we don’t have an identity until we have a career and that growth is finite (e.g. we become something and that's it). After we get our first job or maybe after a couple years we begin realizing just how bad corporate drudgery ...
The Amazon Cliff?? - Amazon pay drops after 4 years??

Did you know that Amazon pay drops after 4 years? Many Amazon employees often refer to the event as "the cliff" - In my last video I talked about why I left Amazon at the 4 year mark and someone made a comment that I'd like to address - He said: "The cliff happens because you should be moving up, promo by then. Leave your Current Employer to Get Paid More

Thank you so much for this detailed insight . So i am in a tricky situation. My amazon loop interview got over at last Thursday. I got a call from a recruiter stating “congratulations team has very positive feed back for you. We are intended to hire you but now we dont have a role. We will give you a letter if intent. You dont have to reloop or something but u gotta wait until we find a home for you” . Now that was really kinda tough pill to swallow. I donno what an intent letter is. Does it talk about salary etc. ? Could you please help How to deal with it? If the intent letter has any numbers can I negotiate or should i wait until an actual offer?

Managers at old jobs expect you to allow disrespect and bs, 9 out of 10 times they are narcissist that cannot tolerate people having a pair of balls and stoping any abuse . Since they have your job they expect you to go in there and allow them to gaslight you and abuse you for a paycheck ... when you leave jobs often thats whats normally happening.. low key bullying . And they want to continue the abuse to the next employer.. they will try to destroy your job prospects just because you dared to put boundaries. Amazing how this scumbags are out here running job sites. No wonder why they never keep their talent employees, laws need to go into effect soon they need to come after their paychecks not company time and dime

Instead we watched a self privileged baby complaining for making too much money. In all the other continents on Earth (with exception to Australia), making 100 thousand a year would be incredible. In the USA privileged babies get over 200 k plus stocks and still complain. Why did I click on this crap.

Seriously.. I am not being snarky, but how do all these salary negotiation videos exist without giving ANY useful information about salaries and what to ask for? it is mind boggling to me. lol. I am expecting a call back this week and have no idea what to ask for and 20 videos have given me zero useful information. If it were not for the recruiters - who I can speak directly to - I would not stand a chance getting what I need for the role.

These are such wonderfully insightful and educational videos! Much of the approach, though, seems to be tech biased. I just finished with the Amazon loop and, based on how it went, I am confident I should receive an offer. However, the role is with data center real estate. I’m not sure that I have as much leverage as some of the tech folks. And, these types of roles in Amazon are so few they don’t show up on lists that, level has. Is there another way I could I try and negotiate the offer? Is it perhaps to say “I am coming in with twice as much as experience desired in the job description “Preferred” qualifications. I need to think on this a bit and will get back to you.” I’d ask what the range is for the role, is the recruiter going to answer and answer honestly? If they do, should I perhaps shoot for a percentage, say 80%, of t to bay compensation? Thanks for all of your awesome insights!

you are part of the problem. there's so much disparity in all of these subfields, that top end execs are asking for a lot of money and disrupting all of that below them. now the people who actually do the hard work won't get nearly what they're worth because some douchebag executive is going to get that salary.

I don’t agree with your thoughts on this, and your experience is not typical. Yes, there are a lot of factors in how you approach your career, but this is a company that you can stay at for a long time, and always have opportunities to negotiate and increase your salary and compensation packages. It does depend on your skill acquisition and your ability to impact the business in your role while you are there. You have to earn promotions, not sit and wait like you referenced. You are encouraged to take your career into your own hands. I also disagree with how you describe the hierarchy approach. Most of Amazon is a flat organization structure, so you may not have been in a department that used the model.

    • @tonda2zu
      @tonda2zu 2 месяца назад

Contrary to this, I can back the information in this video. Even being promoted and being a role model, exceeding and maxing all targets can not grant you a fair compensation at Amazon. Saying employees has their own career in their hands only pushes Amazon's responsibility away in my opinion.

I decided to order something (GPU) for the first time with Amazon. Made an account and ordered a second hand GPU i needed for my work. Next day it came in a cardboard box that was falling apart. The GPU box was missing a lid, the GPU looked fine but did not turn on. So i tried to return it the next day after i left a negative review on this product with a photo of how it got delivered, a few hours afters i left this review my account got suspended and the review removed. After some trouble i got emailed a return code that was not accepted by UPC or UPS, so after visiting 5 shops that would return my package but refused the code i called Amazon again, they send me a wrong code and now send me the correct code. It worked with the first place i delivered it to. Now a month later my order account is still suspended and my money is not returned while they accepted my return package and agreed for a refund(i repaired the carboard box with allot of tape.) This is a horrible first experience with Amazon and has made not want to order anything online anymore.

For Chinese sellers, Amazon is very scary. Most seller think Amazon is a scam. Amazon readily executes Chinese sellers who accidentally violate its platform policies. Very ruthless. Many Chinese sellers died quietly. They are young people. Few Chinese are getting rich from the Amazon business, and the Chinese are still too poor to truly benefit from the world trading system, Alibaba will not confiscate the supplier's goods. Which is why China always cannot meet U.S. demands for reform. Technology and trade exchanges continue to advance.People choose better services. And Amazon plays a big role. The entire world trading system is almost monopolized by Amazon now, which is terrible.
